FOLLIES
....With 26 in the cast and about the same number of songs, it is not possible to single out more than one or two. Perhaps the most famous is “I’m Still Here” in which April Nicholoson shows her unusually powerful vocal quality. Mark Hutchinson as Buddy has fun with “The Right girl” and “God, why don’t you love me Blues” and Maggie Robson sings the poignant “Losing My Mind”. The fourth member of the quartet is Julie Ross an actress who combines the comic timing of Joan Rivers with the looks of Bernadette Peters.

....There are huge benefits in the chamber approach to this bitter-sweet musical. I loved the reduction for piano, cello, violin and flute. And not a microphone in sight. It was incredible to see the characters disintegrate at close quarters, in the raw pain of “Too Many Mornings”; the ironic saccharine optimism of “Tomorrow” gained an extra impetus in this intimate setting. MD Aaron Clingham led his Palm Court players effortlessly through the Sondheim numbers, pastiche, patter and power ballad.
Two dozen or so in the cast, twice that number in the house. A real shared experience the final walk-down came all too soon.....
Michael Gray The Public Reviews ****

......Director Tim McArthur has assembled an often stunning cast, with convincing twinning of older and younger actors, and an ensemble which is never less than supportive and engaging. The addition of Mark Hutchinson to the cast is a real coup for the company, and his Buddy performs James Goldman’s book as convincingly as Sondheim’s score. For those who already love Follies, or who are looking for a thoroughly well-produced musical on the London Fringe, All Star Productions make the long journey up the Victoria line thoroughly worth the effort......

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD
....The clear highlight was Sarah Dearlove's rendition of Surabaya- Santa, which was sung with gusto and that essential touch of humour, neatly offset by the character's dark undertones. Dearlove managed to bring the house down with this one............the direction was by far the best I have seen for Songs for a New World. The songs should take centre stage and in this version they do. This is an intimate show with epic subject matter and it is very difficult to deliver a perfect piece of theatre on the fringe when it demands so much of its performers.....Skye Crawford. SONDHEIM BY SONDHEIM
....An ensemble piece; ten vocalists accompanied by bass and piano reel off a dozen and a half numbers from Sondheim's most memorable shows. A sort of greatest hits package - a string of 'pearls' - but one that would have been made more precious if only joined together by some sort of narrative thread. But each performer possessed voices like jewels, and I feel a touch mean singling out a few but space won't allow me to mention everybody. I went along to the Roundhouse wondering if this company could do justice to Sondheim's genius. I must admit that I arrived with a frown, but I left grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
If you like Sondheim, you'll love All Star Productions.....

SOMETHING'S COMING...
All star productions is comprised of a talented group that specialise in the works of Sondheim. The company is composed of seasoned performers from West End musical theatre who perform these pieces for their love of the composer/lyricist - and no wonder. These are not easy pieces to do, but they are well directed musically by Aaron Clingham who manages to keep the whole thing moving along briskly. He is assisted by a Cellist whose expertise really makes the best of sondheim's music. All praise to the imaginative direction and choreography of Randy Smartnick who uses every inch of the vast Technis acting space and who performs wonders with the complicated ensemble numbers.
